The Cooperative
The largest producer of Virgin Olive Oil and Olives in the World.
Hojiblanca, Sociedad Cooperativa Andaluza is a second level cooperative, in other words, it's a union of cooperatives dedicated to the production of Virgin Olive Oil and Table Olives.
Currently it's formed by 51 oil producing cooperatives located in the center of Andalucia, the provinces of Cordoba, Malaga, Sevilla and Jaén. Of the 51, 48 are almazaras and 15 are dedicated to table olives (12 doing both). There is also a Services and Supplies department with dozens of associate cooperatives.
This region has a large olive growing tradition. There is proof that more than 2 million years ago there were olive tree plantations in these lands, and the growing of olives was indeed the main economic activity of the region.
The Hojiblanca Cooperative contains 26,000 families of olive farmers that grow 24 million olive trees spread over 200,000 hectares. This equates to an average yearly production of 85,000 tons of virgin olive oil, and 35,000 tons of table olives, which makes the Hojiblanca Group the largest producer of Olive Oil and table olives in the world today.
